Virginia Farm Bureau member Margaret Ann Smith says she and her fellow livestock producers are outraged and upset over the recent video showing alleged animal abuse at a dairy in Ohio. At the same time, she's also upset that the producers of the video did nothing to prevent the abuse for weeks. Please keep your comments clean and age appropriate! • Well said Margaret! An entire industry can not be judged off the actions of one "bad apple."

  • Blaming the camera man? Talk about taking the low rode. You farmers suck. More concerned with your reps than a tortured baby animal...

  • @vathistle what a bunch of baloney, the people taking the video could have been killed or physically beaten if they had stopped the animal abuse, it was to spread awareness you idiots. If a journalist is in a war zone and sees someone getting shot, does he stop and pull out his gun? no he's a journalist you idiots.

  • @TaylorNewSong Yes Taylor. Right on. What they are doing is merely a way of taking the focus off the real crime and shifting the blame. Not working. Torture is torture is torture. I get a kick out of when they call themselves ethical farmers or when they claim to care very much for their animals. It's kind of like when a guy beats his wife and then comes home with flowers or when a rapist takes his victim out for dinner first and then surprise! Twisted logic they use.

  • No matter what this woman says she is profiting from animal abuse, enslaving animals to your wallet is the abuse, one day there will be a paradigm shift and people will understand that what is the animal's belongs to the animal, just as the same with you. You wouldn't someone to take your arm or leg for dinner. Meat is murder.

  • I understand your feeling that the vegans have a hidden agenda. I am not a vegan but I hated the cruelty in the video. I wish they would have stopped the abuse sooner also but sometimes authorities think things are a one time occurrence but clearly it was not. I appreciate your stand against that horrific behavior and I applaud you for your high standards. Help get rid of the abusers who give dairy farms a bad name.

  • It's sad that anyone would think vegans have any "agenda" other than reducing animal suffering. I am vegan mostly because I can't visit every farm and see every worker in action to ensure that animals are well cared for.

Decent people like yourself in the animal food industry share this "agenda", but greed does horrible things to people, no matter what the product. Thank you for voicing your opposition to abuse of animals raised for food. We need more caring farmers and fewer Smithfields.

  • I agree 100% Margaret Ann!! Might have been helpful to add footage from some of our local dairies to show people just how well our animals are treated...it's going to be hard to erase the acts and images of that Ohio dairy video...but then again isn't that how these organizations work?...making it look like the entire industry participates in these practices...a shame.

  • the guy filming it stood by for 4 weeks watching that guy abuse the cattle he is the vegan with the agenda ..

the guy doing the abuse was bad but I wonder if he was paid or cheered on in his abuse AR want the abuse footage thats all they care about ..if they cared for the cattle they would reported it the first time they saw it but no their agenda was more important ..to them ...

  • What? Are you crazy? Billy Joe Gregg was a Vegan? Shoot, I would have never thought of that! Hmmm so some Vegans approached Billy Joe and said, "Hey let me video tape you abusing animals. It will ruin your life." Do you think that maybe their is a million dollars sitting in a swiss bank somewhere for him? This makes no sense! Why can't you believe that animal abuse goes on? He was caught, and I am glad!

  • Well said. I am 100% with you!
