ABI MALDI plate cleaning kit sells for $140.
It contains a toothbrush ($2), a box of kimwipes ($5), a tube of metal polisher ($10), a squirt bottle ($8), all available at Amazon.com ($25). The cleaning solution made with water, CHCA, alcohol and a non-ionic detergent (can be prepare by any undergrad in a basic analytical lab for $10), but is not available at Amazon.
We can only guess that the pending patent cost $100...
