Considering how every other monster gives 150-200 exp, that's phenomenal.
That and if 2 appear together and they're brave enough to resurrect each other consistently without running, you can get up to sixteen kills worth of exp from a single fight (the monster counter/exp modifier is only a single hexadecimal digit). I found this out from the Star Magician's spheres (I refuse to say "balls" in a case like that), when the 17th Thunder Sphere spawned, its number was reset to 1.
