Iran "tricked by religion"! Sound familiar?

And I'm not even Persian-Iranian but totally understand that!

Realize though that technology can become a religious-tool of power, bare with me...
Dictators, micromanaging, not-so-smart folks that see humans as a number rather than viable part of an economy etc.. Those types use the fudging of numbers and passing the buck to control and squash anything new and improved, get me? Look at the pushers of inefficient power(s) around the world, it's obvious. I still see the atrophy in many traditions. Even some new ones, like networked influence and health insurance! : P
