The shared memories of five adults who survived the Depression weave a tapestry that illustrates an aspect of American culture in the 1930s: children maturing quickly and becoming self-reliant at an early age. A Coronet release. 28 minutes, color.

  • My grandparents on both sides told me about people passing thru coming by thier homes asking for something to eat.

My grandparents were survivers, thrifty, creative and unselfish. They never turned anyone away. I have a St.Christopher given to my mother when she was 4 by a boy ten yrs.old that my grandmother had fed. My father said, he wore patches on top of patches but so did everyone else. They used newspaper to stuff in the cracks of the house, some winter mornings snow was on thier bed.

  • @ilililhy History always repeats itself unless the people can look back to the past and try to correct the present. We just need to educate every average Joe and we need a large population that can capable critical thinking so the can avoid the troubles from the past.

  • this is africa every day

  • Obama's Objective !!

  • @ilililhy So true man. So true.

  • I remember these times as a youngster, I had to deal with the Dirty 30s also. My father got work with the CCC Camp and later got a Railroad job with Santa Fe Railway. A lot of good and bad memories. I enjoyed watching.

  • The depression only happened cause the government let it happened. There was no real reason for people to be homeless or jobless.

  • @wtfhellas

I agree, for bad parents, beating is the only solution.

  • If you see poverty coming your way, move to the state of Tennessee where the mountains and streams are, do not move to any state like California or Arizona where the mountains are dry and desert. Move to Gruetli Laager, Tennessee, where there are mountains and streams by the thousands upon thousands of acres, and live in the wilderness paradise up here and GET OUT OF THE CITIES WHERE CRIME WILL BE SO RAMPART IN DAYS TO COME.

  • I hope that viewers realise that an even worse depression is coming fairly soon. I'd almost bet my life on it. What makes it worse this time is that it will be an inflationary depression. On top of that, you have a much worse culture and many more people to worry about when society breaks down.

  • ITS NOW ILLEGAL TO FEED THE HOMELESS. LOOK AT FOOD NOT BOMBS.

    END THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX.
