Postojna Cave (Postojnska Jama), in Slovenia, is the largest in Europe (20 km and 570 m, with a constant temperature between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius. The local collection of stalactites, stalagmites and columns is outstanding, constituting a paradigm of karst topography in connection with the river Pivka. The white, black/gray, reddish and green colours of the rocks are relative to the presence of calcium carbonate, manganese oxide, karstic argil and copper, respectively. In the cave lives a troglobiont - Proteus anguinus (Laurenti, 1768), a salamander existing only in the Dinaric Karst (August 21, 2009).
