@junpower010 That sounds like something my mother would have done back in the day. That is a great hand-me-down. I just viewed a video from a guy who restored an old original Japanese kamado that was in even worse shape. The firebox can be fixed fairly easlily. Check out his video. Search in YouTube: Lee's "new" Kamado part 1. He also has a Part @ that shows his finished, restored Kamado.

My neighbor has an old kamado very similar to that, he uses a lid, just like you as his top also broke. Every bit as good as a $600 Big Green Egg!

My mom poured water into this kamado to put the coals out about 10 years ago, cracking the interior firebox and was banned from using it. She also broke the lid by opening the bbq with the lid tilted. My step father passed away on Jan 19th so I inherited it and use it properly. He is the original owner and got this for $50 back in the 60's or 70's while working on the docks.
