On Thursday 22 September we took on the challenge to develop two areas of land on our year old Oakfield Gardens development in Southampton, in a "Ground Force" style one day makeover. And who could be better to give advice on gardening and to get stuck in with the digging, lifting and planting, than local TV gardener Charlie Dimmock!
The team met at 8am with their pre-made plans and digging commenced! In just eight hours the scrub land at one end of the development was turned into an amazing eco-garden with log piles for bugs and a bog garden to encourage more wildlife, as well as natural seating areas for the residents to enjoy. The piece of land in the middle of the two blocks of apartments had been allocated for bike sheds but this would have meant a concrete courtyard and blocking out the trees and light. The bike sheds have been relocated and now there is a turfed area, beautiful raised beds with pretty flowers and a seating area for residents.
