  • OK, a lot of people who do not high jump at a top level have commented here. So just to clear things, this exercise trains the phase of the jump when the muscle length changes from lengthening to shortening. If you know your biomechanics and force plate date you will understand this is the point at which the muscle is exerting maximum force. Therefore it is useful to get the nervous system to practice this type of contraction.

  • You should be able to squat atleast 1.5 times your weight to do plyometrics. Build up your strenght then do plyos..

  • wrestling shoes are the best things to jump in.... when doing a vertical jump test, wrestling shoes or flat-spikeless track shoes will give best result compared to other shoes.... bare-feet is actually best overall for testing depending on the surface. (These are olympic jumpers-i'm sure they know what they are doing so cool the sarcastic under-tone)

  • @rivetingcactus high jumpers take off of a flat foot

  • @rivetingcactus He never demonstrated landing on the heels. He clearly said in the video to not land on your heels or toes, but rather to land with your weight on the balls of your feet.

  • @JustElijah In the video, he comments not to land on your toes, and not to land on your heels due to stress on your achilles tendon. Therefore, try to land as much on your whole foot as possible, BUT with weight on the ball of the foot.

  • @DexterousGamer That isn't what I'm seeing at all; so it doesn't really make a difference what he says, since everyone is more of a visual learner anyway.

  • @JustElijah They said to not land on your toes, but rather on the balls of your feet.

  • What's wrong with landing completely on the balls of your feet? Because I heard the guy saying it will affect your balance; wouldn't your balance get better if you keep doing it? Having good balance is something you should aim to achieve in all possible aspects of sport and life.

  • @jaleed yea, i always go below ;) I even atg afterwards. I am glad to see someone who knows how to train correctly in these darn comments.(not this vid as much as other vids)

  • @145bobby

make sure your form on your squat is good

below parallel and don't bend your back

go low and drive with your hips

deadlift is also a great exercise, its actually fun to do, burns the hamstrings nicely :)

  • @jaleed I finally upped my squat to 1.5xBW Now i can start adding some medium plyometrics..i am waiting till i get 2.2 to add in depth jumps
