Voting by Mail is wildly popular among voters in San Mateo County and, in fact, all of California. Nearly half of the voters, or 180,000(+) people in San Mateo County have signed up to vote by mail on a permanent basis. In 2000, (before the law changed) there were less than 5,000 people on the voter rolls who voted by mail. So once a voted ballot arrives at the Elections Office, what happens next?
Every voters signature on the back of the Vote by Mail return envelope is compared with the signature on their voter registration card before the ballot is accepted for counting. A newly automated process helps our staff do this job efficiently, but they do compare every single signature! Then, meet Ollie, the Pitney Bowes sorter machine it sorts up to 24,000 pieces an hour to ready them for the ballot removal and vote counting processes. Lastly, learn about the Track & Confirm online application that lets voters check and see if and when their Vote by Mail ballot was sent to them and when it arrived at the Elections Office, after the ballot had been filled out and mailed by the voters.
I AM REGISTERING BY MAIL. ONCE I REGISTER WILL I RECIEVE A VOTER I.D. OR REGISTRATION CARD OR SOMETHING THAT HAS MY NAME AND ADDRESS ON IT AND SAYS IM A REGISTERED VOTER? IM IN CALIFORNIA BTW.
