@juliannewhill DO's are medical doctors too. On top of doing osteopathic manipulation techniques, DO's are trained to prescribe medication, do surgery and do everything an MD can do, so you don't have to "see a doctor first".

osteopathy doesn't claim to cure anything, it helps the body cure itself, but a hiatus hernia may need an operation so best to see your doctor first to get advise.
