This footage is from a drill my Sea Cadet unit had. Its aboard the MANATRA (Marine Navigation and Training Association) registration YP-671. She is docked in Chicago on the Chicago River. It officially belongs to the Navy and is on "permanent loan" to the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, but is privately owned. It was a Yard Patrol Craft in service. She measures 80ft long and is powered by four 6 cylinder Detroit Diesel engines. She's still got all the Navy gear on her, including the radar. Really neat experience. I couldn't get as much footage as I would have liked since it was a drill and some good old fashioned Navy schooling was on the POD, but I did get some good pics and clips. Enjoy!

  • I am from Annapolis Division and the new YPs are used to train MIdshipmen at the Academy. So we stay on the YPs every drill. We sleep on them on friday and saturday nights, and we get underway a few times a year

  • DUDE! I was just in Annapolis over the winter for POLA! It's Kolb, do I know you?We stayed on those YPs during POLA. Fyi, the MANATRA is going to get replaced by one of those newer ones by next year. 108ft is so much better than 80ft ;)

  • @johnag9d Whoops sorry! but it was fun conducting those drills. I should have had them removed. I told the cadets to hide them well.... guess they did a good job huh? hope your doing well. looK me up in facebook

  • @GoNavy95 YP673, the Pride of Michigan lol

  • @usmcwannabe2016 oh sweet lol. Im from Great Lakes Division on the Pride of Michigan, the MANANTRAs sister ship. We are getting a second YP next year, cant wait to go to sea on it.

  • Hey Felix! Yea someone found the drill IED you put in the engine room...almost gave Mark a heart attack, found it during winter refit back in what 1999? The USCG in Two Rivers found the one you planted in the forward bilge. Not cool! They were not happy until they tested it. This is a good video BTW, have not been underway in a couple years, but glad to see what I helped to restart is still going strong.

  • Hey sweet ship. I'm on YP673, the MANATRA's sister ship. Nice to see that yours is still in great condition too. On the Pride of Michigan we do a lot of diving and rescue/safty trainings. What does your division do?

  • I'm going to this training in August...any suggestions or tips?

  • SR Singleton, Liberty (AGTR-5) Division

goin to boot in june then either seamanship or Field Ops (then SWCC if they have it).

For underway Seamanship training, which is better, NSCS Greyfox or the YP shown here?...thanks guys

  • I wonder if anyone ever found that IED I put in the engine room that we used for training?
