A Tibetan monk who was severely tortured for speaking out against the Chinese regime in 2008 has died. Jamyang Jinpa died on Sunday due to injuries sustained at the hands of Chinese authorities, according to Tibetan sources.

Tibetan monk, Jamyang Jinpa from the Labrang monastery has died after speaking out against Chinese authorities three years ago.

On April 9, 2008, in the aftermath of the Tibetan crackdown, Jamyang was one of several monks who openly spoke out against the Chinese regime to foreign journalists. The journalists were visiting their temple, on a trip organized and monitored by the Chinese regime.

All the other monks from the group went into hiding, except for Jamyang.

Police arrested and beat him, then during 10 days of interrogation he was tortured to the point of death, according to the Tibetan Government in Exile.

After a month, Jamyang was returned to his family. According to Washington based International Campaign for Tibet, when Jamyang was released his injuries were apparently due to torture, including bleeding on the brain and damage to the kidneys.

He died on Sunday April 3rd. His death is believed to be related to injuries sustained during his detention.

Jamyang is the second monk from Labrang Monestary to have died. Sangey Gyatso was also involved with the 2008 protest, and died in February 2011 after a year in hiding.

    free tibet.

  • Very sad. When will these totalitarian regimes learn that what they do to these dissidents is far more damaging to their image world wide than what the dissidents say.

  • Sangey Gyatso and Jamyang Jinpa are heroes of Tibet and the Tibetan cause.

    Free Tibet!

  • The chinese regime is worthless, it kills innocent people & sucks donkey dick. No one in the world wants china as their government. The chinese regime is known for being a piece of shit worldwide. Come & get me mutha' fuckas'.

  • @Arperture2008 Tibet has been in the American news. Also, the Dalai Lama reminds people wherever he visits which keeps the subject in the public eye. At least here in NYC there have been protests over the crackdowns on Tibet by the Chinese gov't. There was one here a couple of months ago.

  • @MiLSeLrAhC It didn't stop Malaysia or Indonesia from doing similar things to the indigenous people there either but perhaps because it is not widely known as are the problems Tibet is having with China.

  • @MiLSeLrAhC The world has changed between the 15th & the 1st half of the 20th century. Most of the world neither knew nor cared particularly about what was done to people in far-away America. Now the world learns about what is happening everywhere almost instantly. Video of people makes it feel very real & have an immediacy never before known. China just hasn't learned how to deal with dissidents as the U/S. has- allow them to protest all they want giving the appearance of freedom & change 0

  • @mmedefarge that didnt stop the americans from doing the same to the red indians...

  • But yet you don't hear about this in America..
