Have you ever wondered about the ingredients in the Colonel's secret recipe chicken? If the flesh came from Tyson Foods, a major KFC supplier, there's a chance the big secret is that the bird was coated in human waste before reaching the dinner plate.

PETA conducted an undercover investigation in 2004/2005 at a Heflin, Alabama, Tyson slaughterhouse, but even that did not prepare us for the disgusting acts that would be documented during two 2007 investigations. On nine separate days, PETA's investigator witnessed workers urinating in the live hang area, including on the conveyor belt that moves birds to slaughter.

The investigator also documented sickening cruelty to animals in both the Georgia and Tennessee slaughterhouses. Supervisors at both facilities either were directly involved in the abuse or were made aware of it by the investigator—but they did not stop it. In addition to the cuts and broken limbs suffered by live chickens at nearly every slaughterhouse, the investigator documented the following:

- One worker admitted that he broke a chicken's back by beating the bird against a rail, a back-up killer stabbed birds in the neck area with knives, and several birds were hung from shackles by their necks instead of by their legs.

- PETA's investigator caught on videotape a supervisor telling him that it was acceptable to rip the heads off live birds who had been improperly shackled by the head.

- Workers—sometimes standing 4 to 6 feet away from the conveyor belt—violently threw birds at the shackles. Some animals slammed into the shackles and fell onto birds on the conveyor belt below, at which point the worker sometimes repeated the abuse.

- Birds died when their heads and legs became trapped under a door at the end of the conveyor belt that transported live birds to be hanged. A supervisor was aware of this problem but did nothing to stop it.

- The killing-machine blade often cut birds' bodies instead of their throats. Although aware of this problem, a supervisor offered no solution, instead blaming the problem on the "nature of the machine."

PETA has written to Tyson Foods and asked the company to fire all the workers who were responsible for the abuse documented in these two facilities, immediately install video cameras on all killing floors and in all hang areas, and hire its own undercover investigators to look for and report cruelty. We are also calling on Tyson and KFC to phase in a far less cruel method of slaughter known as controlled-atmosphere killing, which would eliminate worker contact with live animals.

  • Hmm I can't go vegan.. I seem to get sick more.. but I am a deer hunter (quick shot, close range). But my rule is I shoot it ( it's either instant death or miss) I eat it. That's why I don't hunt coyotes, can't eat them! Plus I'm a girl =). Nothing go's to waste and I know exactly were the meat came from, it's organic, and the deer felt no suffering.

  • you tried going vegan but you hunt deer?

i find it hard to believe that you can shoot a deer at close range.

if you went vegan and you got sick, you weren't eating properly (i've been vegan for 4 years, never been healthier)

how do you know that the deer you killed felt no pain or suffering? how do you know the deer isn't a mother with a baby to look after (baby that was born in the spring still needs its mother in autumn)?

bottom line, how can you shoot and kill an innocent defenseless animal?

  • you deleted my comment.....

im serious tho.. ITS A SLAUGHTER HOUSE!!

do under cover footage at their chicken raising places and if they mistreat them there THEN i with you.

  • there is a method of slaughter called CAK (controlled-atmosphere killing) which limits worker contact with live animals.

It would cost KFC and Tyson Foods little to nothing to install.

type in "chicken factory farming" in the youtube search bar.

let me know who you're with after watching a few of those videos.

  • Vegetables are also alive. They don't have a face, but you are still de-fleshing a living being, chopping it up and boiling it alive.

Fruits like apples and oranges are meant to be eaten (so the seed can spread), so you should only eat fruits and perhaps some leaves if they can be harvested without harming the parent plant. Or just be a hypocrite.

Not yet sure how to live without killing bacteria and viruses, but first let's start treating vegetables ethically and then save the microbes.

  • Now that's a convincing argument!

Vegetables, fruits and plants don't have nervous systems, nor do they have brains.

They're not able to feel pain, fear, confusion, or abuse.

  • What can I do to help get this STOPED ?

  • there is something called CAK (controlled-atmosphere killing) which limits worker contact with live animals.

it would cost Tyson Foods and KFC very little to phase in this method of slaughter.

  • I would really be interested in hearing where you get your information from.

Hate to break it to ya, but your asshole isn't a reputable source.

More than 27 BILLION (yes, billion) animals are killed EVERY YEAR for food in the United States alone.

  • Perhaps you may want to read the information provided in the side bar.

It's shameful on Tyson Foods and KFC!

Tyson Foods has not fired the workers who were responsible for the abuse documented in the two facilities, and they will NOT install video cameras on all killing floors and hang areas.

Tyson Foods and KFC should agree to phase in a far less cruel method of slaughter called CAK (controlled-atmosphere killing), which eliminates worker contact with live animals, which would be cheap to do.

  • There are two true motherfuckers.

Tyson Foods (major supplier for KFC, undercover footage taken in one of their slaughterhouses is shown in this video), and KFC (who knows of the cruelty that goes on inside these slaughterhouses, but continues to support them by purchasing their dead chickens).

  • it also contradicts evolution
