i think the problem with elitch is he's focusing too much attention on his kit and what he's playing rather than the other members of his band, e.g. at 2:25 Juan faces elitch for almost a minute, yet elitch just keeps looking at his lovely drums and cymbals. Similar thing with omar, omar and pridgen had a great onstage connection and you can see it in many of the 2008-9 live videos, but elitch has hardly any.

kinda slow...

@QueLub Correct.

I do play drums, and have done for 11 years. And its simply my opinion man. I find it more ignorant that you're setting out to change my opinion while telling me what I can say about my personal preferences when it comes to comparing drumming skill between drummers. TP is good, sure, but what Jon Theodore did, in my opinion, was better suited to TMV's brand of music.

We have no idea what The Mars Volta sounds like with Elitch until they release an album with him playing drums. We're only hearing Elitch playing Pridgens patterns... at least wait until you hear him play something that was wrote for him.

@Kingskyn lacking a sense of rhythm??? Dude, either you don't play drums, or are a beginner to make a statement that ignorant. You can say you don't prefer his playing style, but a lack of rhythm is a blatantly uneducated statement. Check out some of TP's Modern Drummer videos, I think that will change your opinion.

euhhh...well i got into TMV when Thomas Pridgen joined the band, so this performance sounds strange..but then again the crowd is hype, so i guess thats all that really matters
-
i want pridgen back
-
this new foo is tight.

@trenken Totally agree, as much as I love Pridgen, he is definatley one of my top 5 drummers, I think he was just too young for TMV. By no means bad though. Elitch seems tight as hell!
Something wrong with your "s" key?

To be honest, looks to me like elitch can groove like jon theodore could.. and it sounds pretty tight. pridgen was a good drummer, but i think he lacked the sense of rhythm, tightness and dynamics that theodore had. So yeah, im not too bothered about this new guy, should be alright.
