This class has inspired my final video as well as two other short works I made during the course of this class. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjJmxt64yV4 http://youtube.com/watch?v=98fjPGpN0p4
On this video, I have been influenced specifically by the film compilations show, Santiago, Alvarez, Hara Kazuo, and the editing techniques presented in the course.
I don't remember the director's name but the film was a compilation of nature footage edited to music. The film started in relative tranquility and ascended into agitation and chaos to get across the director's point. Similarly Santiago Alvarezs LBJ and Now! each used music and a compilation of pictures/video to emphasize a political point. I was inspired by these films because they used only archive footage/photos and were still able to deliver a powerful message.
The extremely personal nature of Kazuo's documentary, Extreme Private Eros: Love Song, made me first consider the use of old footage from my summer. Throughout the class I felt that the best works were ones focused on subjects that the creator had personal attachment towards.
Finally, in constructing this video I used editing to emphasize a change in emotion as the content of the clips also changed. I was semi inspired by All the Real Girls and Do the Right Thing. These films seemed to use editing, specifically length of shots, to reflect the mood of a scene.
Before this class I only made videos that were about television shows, but now (though I do hope to make more of those) I want to make videos about issues that are important to me; films that are expressive or influential.
Lol wow nice, cool idea. going off the around midnight idea, this one is far more concise and brings across the point better, I like it. I feel like it needed more special effects but of course that's just me... always.
