I ordered these chicks a few weeks ago and have been anxiously waiting for them to arrive. I got two breeds the Easter Eggers which are a mix and not pure bred, but friendly and lay green, blue or pink eggs. One color per hen. I got three so here's hoping I got one of each or at least blues and greens. I also ordered three Black Copper Marans. All hens hopefully. I got them form My Pet Chicken
http://www.mypetchicken.com
Black Copper Marans were listed as the rarest breed of chicken and there was a waiting list. I was lucky to have been placed at the head of the list and was thrilled that my chicks would ship the first week. They are special because they lay the darkest chocolate eggs of any chicken. They're not like the brown eggs in stores. I've watched the other videos here and see there's only one page for Black Copper Marans so I'm happy to add to the videos on that search. They have feathered feet which I've never been a fan of but that's ok to have birds that grow up to be black and lay dark eggs. The hens anyway. Roosters are golden. You can pick the gender of your bird so I ordered all females. But I won't be upset if one of my Marans is a rooster. Marans is always spelled with an S even if you're only talking about one bird. They are named after the town in France they originated inL Marans. I'm worried those feathered feet are getting one of them in trouble already. You'll notice about half way through the video one of the chicks pulls on the toes of my Marans. I'm not sure what to do about it other than to spearate them by breed which I'd rather not as these are going to be one flock, but I'll keep an eye on it. Anyone have any ideas why they do this?

They're on newpaper for the first four days then they'll get switched over to pine shavings which is what I use in the pigeon loft. I mentioned that they still have the egg tooth. You can see it clearly on the intro picture I used. These are day old chicks. They hatched yesterday March 1st and I got them in the mail today on the 2nd. I always worry about young baby birds so I hope this first week won't be too stressful and they'll all grow up happy and healthy. Chickens are so different from parrots and pigeons (which their care is pretty similar) so I'm learning as I go.
