I want to tell you,
I might as well do
About a girl I met back in May
Her name is Rita
And you should see her
When she goes
Ooh wakka doo wakka day

She's got a brother
like any other
Who got his nose caught
Inside a gate
And when they freed him
It so relieved him
He just went
Ooh wakka doo wakka day

You wouldn't think to look at me
That I was strong but underneath
It all I really am
And just prove it why only the other
Day I picked a needle up with one hand

Now up in Bradford
A chap named Radford
While taking part in a local play
Was intercepted and then suspected
of going Ooh wakka doo wakka day

ay ay ay
Who's that lady I saw you with?
It was not your wife
It looked to me suspiciously like
Some I'd had never seen before
In my life
...Do..do...do

It's not surprising when
You come to think of it
Just what it is that makes
people swear
You only have to sing the wrong bleepin' thing
And there'll be bleeping every bleeping where.

Now if you love me
You're not above me
And if you don't well
What can I say
Except will see when
You come to tea then
you can go
Ooh wakka doo wakka day

  • Holy Moly. This really brings me back. I still know all the words. I still have the 45...Used to play this as a kid, for hours.....I think it was the B side to Get Down wasn't it?

  • I can honestly say that I haven't heard this song for at least 35 years! Wow, childhood memories come flooding back!

  • Sang along to this with my 9 year old today - we really enjoyed it! This keeps going through my head along with "whats in a kiss". Can't beat it!

  • @centuryrox Here in Germany they play it quite sometimes on air. And I always turn up the volume and sing along in my car (am travelling a lot). You are right. Childhood memories.... and I was in Bradford few months ago..... so, just why did I have the name Radford in my ears and on my mind? *g*

  • im going to see him live in London

  • brill what a tune.

  • released in 1972 on the MAM record label in UK mam.78. This was the "A" side. The "B" side was "But I'm Not" . Still have all the old vinyl will never part

  • why are my eyes all misty, i was a young married man wen this came out and my wife and i both loved this guy and still do

  • @dgalewiz Actually, no; it was not the 'B'-side of "Get Down".

Gilbert O'Sullivan's song "Ooh-Wakka-Doo-Wakka-Day" was released [as an 'A'-side] back in the summer of 1972; some 8 months before "Get Down" (his chart-topping single from April, 1973) was released.

  • "You wouldn't think to look at me that i was hard, but underneath it all, I really am. And just to prove it; why, only the other day, I picked a needle up with one hand"

Just one of many classic tracks by Ray O'Sullivan from the early 1970's. Back then, men were men ... and birds were birds !!

  • probably Tim and Julia dance at the lodge to this

  • @dgalewiz

    me too!!

    b side of Clair
