Few oriental fox trots are remembered as fondly today as The Sheik of Araby, composed way back in 1921 by the great Ted Snyder (a greatly unappreciated composer). Dallas' own Singapore Slingers, led by Matt Tolentino, put on a concert on November 19th, 2010 at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre entitled "A Night In The Orient," a concert based solely around the oriental fox trot, featuring close to 30 of these great works. Valentino would have loved it!
For the Sheik of Araby, The Slingers brought in Robert Froehner, a professional thereminist who doubles on musical saw. He brought both, and featured them in The Sheik.
Catch the Singapore Slingers live in person for the very best in pre-swing jazz Dallas has to offer. With their wide range of musical material, they've got something for everyone! Check out www.myspace.com/thesingaporeslingersdallas for a complete list of show dates!
