CNN/Inside Africa report on The Kenyan American Soccer Exchange (KASE) Program aimed to strengthen CAREs Sports for Social Change Network and the relationship between CARE, Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) and Nike Inc. KASE was designed and implemented as a mechanism for gender empowerment. The KASE program aimed to 1) provide an incentive for young and adolescent girls to maintain and enhance physical performance, health and quality of life through a high-profile soccer clinic for girls supported by sports and health role models; 2) address the need of Kenyan sport for development organizations to increase their professionalism and sports management skills; and 3) provide a mechanism for a team of Kenyan girls to be exposed to girls club soccer in the USA and showcase their skills for US college coaches and scouts. The KASE program selected group of young female soccer players to travel to the United States for an exhibition tour against elite high school club and university teams. The KASE Travel Team trip took place from April 21 through May 2 in Atlanta, Birmingham, Long Beach, San Diego, Los Angeles and Portland. The team consisted of fourteen MYSA players ranging in age from 17 to 24 and two female MYSA coaches. Visit http://www.care.org/ to learn more and find out how you can get involved.
