@canobeans1 This jetta has a turbo diesel engine; so yes it is able to produce such black smoke in which nearly all diesel powered engines are capable of doing. Please do research before posting.

I agree with you. My TDI has gray smoke if engine is cold. If the water has temperature about 90 degrees i don't have a smoke. Smoke appears also when i have about 4000 rmp

@Tomiqu and I have to correct myself on my first comment:
black smoke means bad air-fuel mixture, too much fuel, too little air.
unburnt fuel produces a grey blueish smoke

@454sskilla I dont even have a chip in it. i just have the Evry Mod on it. its only a 20 dollar mod that u can get at radio shack and u can flip the switch and it'll blow some smoke
