Hello on this Wednesday, October 3, 2007. I'm Kristin Volk with a UPI headline update.

The head of Blackwater USA is saying his company was victimized by a Congressional committee. The House committee on Government and Oversight Reform is accusing the company of being involved in reckless shootings of civilians. The founder and chief executive of Blackwater, Erik Prince, testified on Capitol Hill yesterday disputing its findings and arguing that his company was the victim of a rush to judgment.

North Korea has agreed to disable its nuclear facilities by the end of the year. The deal was reportedly forged by the so-called six-party talks in Beijing. Bush administration officials say that as part of the agreement, the U.S. will oversee the diablement.

Meanwhile, the South Korean president is reportedly turning down a proposal by his North Korean counterpart to extend their landmark summit an extra day. No explanation of the decision was given. South Korea's leader Roh Moo Hyun will return home tomorrow as planned. Extended afternoon talks between Roh and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Il had delayed some events, prompting the invitation to extend their meeting.

Senator Hillary Clinton has sealed her position as the front-runner in the contest for the Democratic presidential nomination. She's outpaced her main rivals in fundraising in the most recent quarter and has widened her lead in a Washington Post-ABC news poll. Clinton has reportedly raised a total of $27 million in the quarter, while her rival Barack Obama took in $20 million. And poll numbers show that 50 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents support the New York senator.

Rescue teams are ending their search for adventurer Steve Fossett. The search has been called off nearly a month after he took off from a Nevada ranch in a single-engine plane. The 63-year-old record breaker was reportedly scouting test sites for a future attempt at breaking the land speed record. The Civil Air Patrol, who's been looking for Fossett, said they conducted one of the largest, most intensive searches for a missing aircraft in modern history.

That's all for now. Thanks for watching and have a great day.

  • With YOUR help, Sen. Obama can & will win! Honest Government & INTELLIGENT LEADERSHIP! Bush didn't know what a Shiite or Sunni was, when he lied to justify killing their families & ours. Sen. Obama implored the Prez not to invade thus starting a sectarian civil war. The GOP, Billary & Edwards did not study the situation/history. Bush & Cheney got wealthier due to this war, DID YOU? OUR soldiers fight/DIE DAILY. Join the movement! God Bless America! Vote for change in DC politics, OBAMA '08
