Located high in the Sierra Nevadas, Sequoia National Park is a gem of the planet Earth. The Giant Forest within the parks boundary contains some of the largest organisms on Earth known as the the Giant Sequoias. John Muir rightfully named the forest "Giant Forest" because it contains four of the five largest Sequoias in the world within its grove.

My hike began from the Crescent Meadow trailhead and left towards the high sierra trail onwards to the Wolverton Cutoff, ascending to 7600 ft above sea level, and then descending into the wilds of the Giant Forest. The hike is called the Giant Forest East Loop and ranges from 8-14 miles in length with an elevation change of 2300 feet to reach the summit.

Giant Sequoia groves rarely seen by human eyes that rival the popular tourist laden groves are featured in this video, as well as views rarely seen of the Western divide and other mountain ranges. wildlife such as deer and lizards are featured as well as meadows, and other important biomes of the giant forest area.

John Muir would be proud of the hike done and also the fact these beautiful Sequoia groves are now for the first time visible to a large medium of people who might not otherwise be able to attempt such hikes.

Dmitri Shostakovich's Trio for Piano and Strings no. 2 in E minor Op. 67 Andante Moderato was chosen to provide a peaceful backdrop to the images. It presents a beautiful piece of music I feel should be played more often.

Sequoia National Park is worth a visit. Hiking in this region was very rewarding. This is one of Earth's prime locations for scenery and wildlife viewing. I hope this video of Sequoia National Park and the Giant Forest convinces you to make the trip over and see it for youself.

Note to hikers: Do not attempt to climb 2300 feet when already 5000 ft above sea level if you are staying in the valley near sea level. I definitely know what altitude sickness feels like as I made this mistake. Beautiful hike made strenuous by the high altitude.

  • Nicely done.

Quick question. Did you see many other hikers on the trail? I know the High Sierra Trail goes for miles so it may limit the usage a bit. We're heading up in September and I've never taken this trail before. Thanks for sharing your trip.

  • @teejate Saw one really cool guy hiking alone before the elevation gain began. He was helpful telling us about the fools gold around if we looked. That was it, other then him it was a lonely hike. It is definitely worth it, but be prepared because the elevation change is very difficult. Hiking this trail in Sequoia definitely changed my perception of life on Earth as a whole, definitely worth it.

  • The Hike featured in this video was 14 miles

  • Nice. We were there just the week before, hitting Moro Rock and Takopah Falls Trail on the 17th.

  • beautiful...it really is one of my favorite places on earth. looks like a great hike!

  • @MichaelLatulippe Awesome. And yeah, 2,300 feet in elevation change is a bit of work when you're starting at 5K or 6K but it's so worth it. Thanks for this tip and it sounds like the trail rocked your world. Very cool. That's what it's all about.
