the BO105 was developed as a small and cheap easy to fly multipurpose helicopter, but not as a tank hunter!

  • They were stationed in Bückeburg and Celle among other locations, to be forwarded to field airfields in case of a soviet invasion to protect the so called fulda-gap were the main advance of the soviet tanks was expected in a worst case scenario.

  • its not charly zimmermann. it was the chief test pilot of MBB.

  • he was a german chief test pilot of MBB who built this thing. those were by far the best helicopter pilots of the world at that time!!!

  • that's not zimmermann, it was flown by the chief test pilot of MBB in the 70s. forgot his name, though. this was a promotion video to show the nap of earth capabilities of the Bo105, unmatched by any other helicopter at that time. the helicopter was developed exactly for this purpose: to fly as low as possible, make out and engage incoming soviet tank platoons without giving away his own position. my uncle was officer in the heeresflieger versuchsstaffel who developed this thing! proud of him!

  • well I'll be DAMNED !
