Leopard geckos shed their skin every few weeks...and then eat it. What a badass.
P.S. He had MBD as a baby, which is why his arms are bent. After a billion vet visits he's alright now. Please make sure your gecko is getting enough calcium AND has UV light or he won't be able to process vitamins and could end up with this disease. :(

  • wtf is mbd plz tell me

  • it stands fro Metabolic Bone Disease. he either wasn't getting enough calcium or wasn't digesting it properly. in order to actually make use of the calcium lizards need the vitamin D from UV rays. after he was diagnosed I got him a UV light, which the pet store owner hadn't told me i needed. in fact, the vet said he probably had the disease before he even left the pet store...i certainly learned my lesson about doing my own research (and not just on personal internet homepages)

  • Dumbass

  • @blownspeakers I had to disagree, it don't need UVB light but , they need proper supplments. Feeders had to be dusted with calcuim and vitiams before feeding to gecko. dust feeders with supplments daily so gecko will get proper calcuim and other and prevent having this diease. They are noturnal that means they go out and active in night. UVB light or supplment works just fine.

  • chewy nom nom nom

  • Same reason.

  • also, then predators won't realize there may be a nice geck to eat nearby

  • Cool! Thanks for letting me know :)

  • thats the exact reason why they eat there skin the geckos skin is filled with calcium soo instead of wasting it the skin is eaten

  • Fascinating! Hermit crabs eat their "skin" when they molt to get the calcium. I wonder if gecko's eat their skin for a similar reason.
