  • A few million years ago, we learned to farm crops.

    Then we domesticated animals.

    Then we started breeding animals.

    Then we trained animals to work for us in various ways.

    This is only the next step.

  • Scientists are mad! And his company, Synthetic genomics, works directly with BP btw; BP owns a patent for a synthetic bacteria his company created to help BP get more oil thus more profits from the oil well heads. The bacteria is thought to be impacting life in the gulf now as it consumes the oil...was it meant to exist outside the well head in such conditions? Probably not. What impact will it have? We shall see. I see his work being used for nefarious and sinister ends myself, but I'm cynical.

  • The work of Venter's team looks kinda like a black swan for the 21st century.
