Pratt & Whitney PurePower™ Geared Turbofan Jet Engine is set to revolutionize the aviation industry with its unique design and performance. Ground testing at Pratt & Whitneys facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., and subsequent flight tests have confirmed significant improvements over traditional engines: 12-15% better
engine fuel burn and acoustic emissions that are more than 20 decibels below todays noise targets.

  • Welcome back to the intercontinental jet market, Pratt & Whitney. You've let General Electric and Rolls-Royce have it all to themselves for too long.

  • I've never seen a bypass totally open like that... Supposedly the fan is geared to change speeds on cruise, this puts less pressure on the high pressure turbine to turn the fan, creating less NoX emissions, saving fuel and using more of the bypass air to create thrust than is used in current engines

  • I love how the engines say purepower on the side XD

  • @novicharged306 what the hell are you talking about. All the new high bypass fans are just as open. You just don't pay attention. Especially on all 777 engines.

  • GENx. Google it.

  • @rb21122b IT WILL :D

  • The exclusive engine for A320neo family. Hope this will put P&W back on top.

  • @KimmurielBaenre True, and at one time Pratt was the dominant player in that space. They had a bad run, but what is impressive is to see them pull through that bad run and turn out a game changing (potentially) product. That earned them a lot of respect from me.

  • @juaarreola - and we should listen to someone who can't even spell banned correctly why, exactly?

  • @shadowamazon - But it *does* change everything.

  • Interned at United Technologies this summer. During a visit to the PW plant, they just about plastered the "this changes everything" slogan everywhere except the bathroom. If i would to see the phrase "this changes everything" one more time. My eyes will bleed.

  • @KimmurielBaenre

Look what´s happened to that RR-shit lately on the Quantas A380, I don´t thing they are as good as people thougt. Otherwise I have respect for GE, they build good engines too.
