Bad Medicine, A Psychiatrist's Control Over Patient's Mind

Dr. Bellonzi discusses a psychiatrist's who told his patient that she would need to be on his drugs for the rest of her life. He put her on powerful antipsychotic drugs and performed ECT, electroshock therapy on her. He refused to do any medical test on her or allow her to get nutrition consulting or weight loss help. Psychiatry is not a replacement for physical medicine.

  • thanx 4 the reply

    * 60% of suicides were undergoing treatment because, most suicidal patients were being cared for by the services. (if 60% of deaths due to heart ailments were being looked after by cardic services you wont say that the services arent very efffective, would you)

psychiatry cant treat criminals, only the ones with mental illness so jail diversion would not be effective.

psychiatry cant prevent all the crime and suicides. they try their best just like other doctors.

  • Um, yes, I certainly would say that if 60% of people that died due to heart ailments were being looked after by cardiac services that the services were not effective.

Jail diversion is being pushed down from a federal level to a state level pretty hard right now. The assumption of jail diversion is that psychiatry can treat criminals and theoretically it would be cheaper to treat them than keep them in jail. Unfortunately, the outcomes aren't too good.

  • do you know that psychiatric patients have killed innocent victims, driven by symptoms of illness? what would you say to a family of such a victim? when the patient is not responsible for such actions due to insanity, what do you think we should do?

  • Just a few other comments.

According the CDC about 60% of all suicides were undergoing mental health treatment at the time they committed suicide. Again, not very effective.

Jail diversion (allowing criminals to avoid jail but instead receive mental health treatment) outcomes show that people who were diverted have higher recidivism rates than those who went to jail. Not effective.

More than half of all school shooters were already receiving mental health treatment. Not effective.

  • It used to be in China that a doctor didn't get paid unless a patient was cured.

  • When I was 8 my mom put me in a mental institute because she was getting a divorce, and the shrink said that seeing it would be traumatic, so institutionalize me instead. I nearly died from "medicine" they gave me for depression, and they never told my family what it even was.

  • if your so upset about this other doctor and the way he is abusing this control over this woman why not report him ?

If you want change then do something about it instead of complaining about how sad you are !

  • You do get so sucked in. I have seen a psychiatrist for SO many years- due to psych drugs, my liver is huge- and fatty. THANK YOU ZYPREXA AND DEPAKOTE-.. I don't know- I have to go off my meds (am off them now) due to my liver- and am crashing and such. This guy mentions a successful strategy- needs to contact me... I'm broke- and sick- and need help.. physically.. SO- your talk sounds good- but how about contacting me @psychetruth.

  • @TheBatmanSmells I would urge you to try alternative therapy such as counselling or meditation before seeing a psychiatrist. Everybody's path to recovery will be different, but consider the risks and side affects associated with common psychiatric treatments before you get sucked in.

  • I actually REALLY need to go see a psychiatrist because ive been feeling extremely depressed for no reason lately and I've been suffering from extreme mood swings :(

  • @pearlita12345 yup not all Ps and Ds are bad an u completley aware of this situation.

  • abusive YES tell me about it my life has been made hell many times over by these Doctors of Psychiatry where i live they have all the power and control over there patients and there's very little you can do to get away from them even if you want too ,unless your lucky enough to be able to afford legal representation. A line from a John Lennon song sums it up for me ...No 1 should have to live in Pain and Fear

  • most psychiatrists suck. the psychiatrist this guy is talking about is out of line. but this patient he's talking about, she might be too stupid to be really helped. someone who puts up with treatments that consistently fail for many years lacks intelligence.

  • This is my belief on evidence for mental illness. I think the aperture of the pupil of the eyes are changing sizes much faster than normal because the psyche has not got enough time to compare thoughts with emotion for logical decisions when communicating. This may be causing erratic behavior and the evidence is the faster body movements of a psychotic person. I am a schizophrenic.

  • My shrink likes that I work out, and he is encouraging me to do yoga because it is offered at my gym. He also wanted me to get more vitamin D.when I got depressed in the winter. I think my shrink cares abut me...I guess I'm lucky. I'm also distrustful of shrinks,so I don't treat them like gods, and am leery about a lot of psych drugs.

Some drugs help, but weight lifting and a healthy diet are just as important--MORE important.
