Since his recent appearances in games such as Mario Kart DS and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the Robotic Operating Buddy or R.O.B. has become quite popular among Nintendo fans. Thanks to Google and You Tube, most Nintendo fans now know of his original purpose as a marketing tool. Nintendo used him solely to get the NES onto American retail shelves during a time when video games were not selling well. R.O.B and the Zapper successfully disguised the NES' status as a gaming console and drove sales until the release of classics such as Super Mario Bros. and Metroid.

As many internet sources indicate, there were only two games in Nintendo's "Robot Series" for the NES that could be used with R.O.B. Those games were Gyromite and Stack Up. At least half of all Gyromite sets produced were packaged along with the NES and Zapper in the Deluxe Set. All Stack Up games were sold separately which made them very rare as all R.O.B.-related products had a very short lifespan. Even rarer still is the stand-alone or "big box" (as it is known on the internet) set of Gyromite.

The parts in the Gyromite set are relatively common, especially on eBay. It is the "big box" packaging of the stand-alone set that is extremely rare. I recently found one after a long time of searching and can now call my NES Robot Series "complete."

This video, like all my others, is a montage of scans and photos of all the original box art and items included with Stack Up and the stand-alone sets of R.O.B. and Gyromite. I particularly enjoy the photo on the back of the R.O.B. box of the 80s family being so "excited" as they play the NES. The box art for just about every NES accessory has photos like that. Ah nostalgia...

  • @yauy no i completely understand. i am a collector myself! but if when you do want to sell the gyromite parts or anything ill be here :)

  • seen to Baby and me and wiiwaa games, R.O.B. can be used for any game that be about contruct robots, control robots or characters, and be part of a social fun with R.O.B., in this case, R.O.B. can be used in exist games like... Super Smash Bros., like better AI for the game, for Wii menú, like inteligent secretary or helper... but the game for R.O.B. must be one of his type, in the R.O.B. game, one example is convert your house in a own video game that you play with R.O.B. seen the tv screen

  • If they did make a ROB for Wii, it would have to be much faster and quiter than the old one. Also what games could use him?
