Here is some video footage taken of the various steam engines running up and down the Mid Hants railway on the Saturday of the Autumn Gala weekend 2009.
Trains running included:

Recently restored 9F "92212"
West Country Class "34007 Wadebridge"
Ex GWR 2-8-0 tank "5224"
Super D "49395"
A4 Pacific "60019 Bittern"
Southern "850 Lord Nelson"

This was the first time I'd been to a Gala event and I approached Ropley Sheds and I was told I have to hand over £18 just to have a look around. I didnt want to ride on the train, I just wanted to takes some videos. As it was a special event I would of been prepared to pay somthing extra for seeing all the 6 operating locomotives. But £18 is ridiculous! Id be prepared to pay £5 - £8 for a platform ticket to spectate the event. Seriously MHR sort it out!

Sorry about that, I just had to make my opinion known!

The majority of the locations were between Ropley and Medstead & Four Marks. This gave an opportunity to see the engines working hard on the climb towards Medstead. The other location I chose was about a mile North East of Medstead. However the bushes had overgrown considerably since I last visited the location. But it still offered a reasonable view of the track.
Id come up to the event and I mislaid the timetable so I was totally unaware that near the end of the day, Wadebridge and 92212 were to be double heading the "Pines Express". Quite a satisfying end to my day.
Hope you enjoyed the video. Feel free to leave comments or helpful hints.
PS. I do apologise to the other photographers if I inadvertantly got in the way of the view of the 9F early on in the day. Im fairly new to this game so now Ive learned not were to stand lol.

  • Cool!! I'll be at Andover in the morning and Whitchurch in the evening - feel free to join me!!

  • Thanks for the offer but Im gonna be travelling to Overton to see it and then to somewhere in the Wylye area. Catch a shot of it starting off and at speed.

  • I beleive we met a few times during the day. You managed to catch me at 7:18 (I'm on the left wearing red ear protecters)

I didn't even bother going to Ropley at such a ridiculous cost!

  • Yea, i rememeber. Being a novice i unwittingly got in the way of the 9F earlier in the day. Sorry about that lol.

I also happened to see you at Grateley station the next day when Tornado made its run to Exeter. I would of said hello but I was on the chase. Check out my video of it.
