No, Dixie Chicks cover a lot of Patty's songs- and she wrote this one, too.

  • @juliegon1 It was originally by the dixie chicks, i think about their whole ordeal with Bush.

  • I think its just about not letting your love go dry, dont get complacent, if it is then admit it and so somthin about it, bring it back to where it started and remember why it started in the first place.

  • This is cool, hearing different people's thoughts on what it means. SERIOUSLY, see the Vh1 Storytellers version of this song from the Dixie Chicks, discussing their differing views on what the lyrics might mean. They note that lots of Patty's lyrics aren't clear to anybody but the writer; perhaps a reason they love her songs and cover them more than any other artist.

  • In general in meaning I interpret it like this:

Even though you don't think your ready to take our relationship to this level yet,I've worked up the courage to admit I love you.

If you'd step up too, and just say yes(or something brave along those lines) we could love each other even more.

Second verse is more of an enigma given my initial thoughts, but the having faith in what you're feeling in your heart...why must we be apart certainly works in well.

have a couple different thoughts on Verse2

  • Swing me way down South

Sing me something brave from your mouth

And I'll bring you pearls of water on my hips

and the love in my lips all the love in my lips.

I always see the imagery here as sexual(lovemaking), as well as the first half of the second verse including "what a way to use the time, ain't it baby?"

Specifically addressing the "pearls of water from my hips" I'm thinking beads of sweat on her hips that go along with the sweet kisses. I think it is all very artistically well worded.

  • Yep. If it were better, I'd Favorite it. But here's a question: "I'll bring you pearls of water from my hips..." --even the Dixie Chicks don't know the meaning. Any guesses?

  • sound quality is v v poor

  • It has something to do with a man being truthful and respecting his woman's opinions as well.

Tbe Dixie Chicks have stretched that to include it to mean freedom of speech being respected on the larger scale as well.

  • I like her version FAR better than the Dixie Chicks one. They hit those three chords too hard, like, "..well baby, that might be true.." BAM BAM BAM!! You know what I mean?
