Stereo-ized 1965 Phillips mono Missa Luba: Les Troubadours du Roi Baudouin perform an arrangement by Father Guido Haazen. The entire album has never been reissued, and no currently available recording matches the original's spirit.

  • This album is truly a work of art and NOTHING comes close to the raw power and emotion coming from the young voices! Too bad this wasn't re-released!

  • @GMAGini You're so right in appreciating the different expressions of our faith. I'm so tired of the "us vs them" mentality that's now prevailing in our Church. The brotherhood and enthusiastic drive from the Post Council years are lost.

  • Love it! I can only think what all the Traddies at the local Latin parishes would make of this if they ever heard it.

This shows the love, unity and diversity of our Church that should not be divided.

  • Praise God for the wonderful diversity we have in the Catholic Church! I bought this about 35 years ago, along with the Missa Criolla, the Missa Campesina, Fr. River's Mass, and others from the Byzantine Rite. I continue to appreciate the vast expressions within our faith and am overjoyed to find them online. Thank you.

  • thank you SO much for posting this - a treasure!

  • Jimmy Page recommends Missa Luba in the February 2010 issue of Mojo magazine. I grew up with the record in my house. My dad, who's a good 49 years older than me, tried to get me to listen when my age was in the single digits. I didn't get it then. Next time I visit, I'll tell him the guitarist of Led Zeppelin recommended I give Missa Luba another try and see what he says.

  • I first heard this album when my older brother came back from spending time in Africa through CUSO and have since lost the album from "loaning" it out and it is such a gift to hear it again! Thank you so much for posting this.

  • Yes, thanks!...I first heard this on a film too, Gospel according to Mark by Passolini...every time there was joy in the the life of Christ during the film misa luba was played..the most astonishing was the entrance of Jerusalem on Palm Sunday....This is Congolese music directed by a Belgian priest...
