— June 07, 2010 — Thousands of demonstrators around the world hit the streets Saturday — from Toronto to Istanbul — to denounce the Israeli raid last week on a Gaza-bound flotilla.
In Toronto, hundreds gathered around 1 p.m. on the south side of Bloor St. W. near the Royal Ontario Museum. There had been a similar protest Friday.
They initially gathered behind police barricades on the south side by the Royal Ontario Museum, waving Palestinian and Turkish flags and protest signs.
On the north side of Bloor, in front of the Israeli consulate, a smaller group of pro-Israel supporters set up a counter-protest, defending the Gaza blockade.
An hour later the pro-Gaza protesters marched to Yonge-Dundas Square, where they rallied well into the afternoon.
"As a human rights activist ... it is my duty to stand up and say enough is enough," said a passionate Ehssan Tehrani, 29.
"I think (the Israeli raid) is despicable. You have a group of human rights activists or humanitarians who basically just want to go and provide aid," he said.
The protest was organized by six separate groups, including the Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid and the Palestine House Community Centre.
Hundreds also marched through Montreal's shopping district Saturday. Laith Marouf, an organizer and long-time pro-Palestinian activist, said it's time Ottawa stopped taking orders from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"The Canadian government's stance has been very disturbing," Marouf said. "It is unfortunate the Canadian government does not stand up for international law."
Demonstrations were planned for Halifax, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and other cities.
In Istanbul, on the other side of the globe, thousands marched through the city on Saturday, demanding Turkey cut economic ties with the Jewish state.
"Damn Israel," "murderer Israel," protesters shouted. "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Revenge."
(Great Guy was their and did not hear these statements - if they occured they where an isolated group and happned for a short while)
Last Monday, Israeli commandos intercepted the Mavi Marmara, part of a six-vessel convoy carrying mostly Turkish activists.
The raid quickly turned violent. Nine Turkish activists were killed and dozens wounded.
There were also demonstrations Saturday in many European capitals.
In Paris, several thousand people gathered in the Bastille area.
"Showing solidarity with the Palestinians in no way means you are a terrorist," said Youssef Ben Derbal, a French national who had been on the Mavi Marmara.
In Dublin, hundreds marched through the city centre to demonstrate against the seizure Saturday by Israel of the Rachel Corrie aid ship, which carried Irish and other activists.
"(I came) to voice my absolute disgust at what the Israeli government has been at, kidnapping our citizens," said John Buckley, a college lecturer.
"The Israelis have no right to intercept ships in the middle of the sea and they have no right to implement the blockade in the first place It's completely illegal."
In London, thousands of protesters converged outside the prime minister's official residence at 12 Downing St., before staging a noisy march to the Israeli embassy.
Gee, you h ave ZERO comments so I thought I would ...
God bless Israel, and we now know that the "humanitarian activists" were nothing more than TERRORISTS. You fail.

@Lagolop "lo tirtzack" God bless Humanity perhaps? 2 questions: what does God bless x country mean, aside from the obvious Jingoistic version? And the 2nd question, I have not heard anything about terroists in this flotilla only the blood bath in international waters and piracy by Isreal. Is piracy justifiable if done for a good cause? Ok -3 questions.

@Lagolop You didn't asnwer a single question. But on Glen Beck: weak source: claims that the Mountain that Moses spoke on was the first time man spoke to humanity? Garden of Eden anybody? Also Glen Beck "logical arguments" are anything but, wondering all over the place -good entertainment - but on the deaths of those aboard the ships - if you where shot at would you not pick up whatever you could do defend yourself? If pirates came aboard your ship would you not defend yourself?

how many dead marines on the attack on the freedom flotilla? How many dead on the ships? And does Beck talk about the American ex-Marine with the Freedom forces? As usual his focus is on Americans giving the impression that Americans are some how special. Like Ted Bundy is more important because he is an American.
