A gimp tutorial for glass orbs. I know that some things can be hard to see, so here are the steps:
1. Create a new image 100x100
2. Create an elliptical select tool with a 100px diameter (a 100x100 square selection)
3. Create a new layer
4. Fill with a base color that you want.
3. Delete the layer called "Background".
4. Create ANOTHER new layer.
5. Put this layer on top, leave your selection!
6. Use the gradient fill tool with your base color and a darker color (on radial)!.
7. Add Text.
8. Create a new layer.
9. (Shine Layer) Make a small elliptical select at the top of the orb. Set your FG to white and set the gradient fill to "FG to Transparent), then fill in your selection (also, make sure your gradient fill is set to linear).
10. Create 3 more layers, Send one layer just under the shine layer, one layer under your text, and one layer behind the base color.
11. on the layer just BELOW the shine layer, do a white to transparent linear gradient fill (within your 100px diameter elliptical selection)
12. select your layer that is under your text.
13. find your base color and make it a little bit brighter on the color selector.
14. take a "fuzzy circle" brush (they come with gimp) and go over your text with it.
15. Now hit CTRL, SHIFT, A, to "Select None" then take your bottom layer that you recently created, and do the same thing as in step 14, but with the outside of the orb, to make it appear to glow.
16. YOUR DONE!
This is a terrible tutorial for beginners like myself because your background is too blurry - I can't make out what to do - Plus why do you have a Rage song playing in the background? It's really retarted if you ask me.

it isn't the background that makes the video blurry. It's my crappy video editing software. i noticed that the video became distorted so i added a list of steps in the description for those who had trouble following the video.

good video, I would have prefered you speak and point out everything. I can follow it though. I like to listen as i'm doing it. :(
