Rainy Day - Fran Merante - Dave Weckl

Another tune from the Dave Weckl Contemporary Drummer Plus One Package. May sound simple but make no mistake, this is a tough tune. The key is to lock in with the sequenced bass track.. The difference between playing to a click and playing to a sequenced track is a pretty big one. When playing to the click, if you are a little off of it, it is not really noticeable as the click is not in the final product. But when playing to a sequencer, you HAVE to be locked in as it IS included in the final product. Nothing flashy here. Just trying to supply the most solid groove I can to give the music motion and a nice pocket. This tune is pretty dated but definitely a good one to play to to keep my groove to a sequenced track in check.

I dont know what you mean "don't make fill part"....This is no fill at 2:37. Just a hit with the horns. Do you mean there is supposed to be a fill at 2:37?? If that is what you mean, I only go by "supposed to be" when taking direction from a song writer or producer. They usually have some specifics in mind. If I am doing my own interpretation of a tune/chart, I play it the way I hear and feel the drum part going. If you would like a fill there, I will gladly record it again for a small fee!!!

Simple, good pocket my man. Whenever I play this, I do the same as Dave and over play first then dial it all back. You do a great job of keeping it even with great feel. I am sure you are going to get a few people moaning about missing fills etc but I commend you on playing for the song not for other drummers!

Damn good Fran, great pocket man and awesome kit sound. Weckls latest 'playalong' is an awesome groove, called 'get to it ', great bass line and less synth based.
