Grand Opening
The replacement of the A. Max Brewer Bridge, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, began on May 15, 2009 with the Lane Construction Corporation constructing a fixed span bridge that would replace the 50+ year old Max Brewer swing bridge. The project is nearly complete and the fixed span bridge will open on January 31st.
The bridge is approximately 3,200 feet long with two 12-foot travel lanes, eight-foot outside shoulders that will accommodate bicycles, and five-foot sidewalks on each side. This project also includes replacing the south relief bridge located west of the Max Brewer Bridge and building a 300-foot long fishing pier on the west bank under the north side of the bridge. The Florida Department of Transportation, Brevard County and the City of Titusville are partners in the project.
