Read one of the Tarasov's books about hockey, and you will find out why Russian team was so good. I have the 1968 gold medal game against Canada in which Firsov scored two goals. I'll try to upload some clips soon.

Firsov had one of the hardest and most accurate shots at that time. I have heard a story from 1965 world championship tournament in which he scored a goal from the air a pass arriving at two feets witnessed by the teller personally.
