With the entry of the United States into the Second World War there was a massive mobilization effort to support the troops. On the home front women took jobs to fill gaps that men left behind, they volunteered, grew victory gardens, and for some flew military aircraft. The Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) were the first women to fly such machinery and would serve with distinction.
