The Hepatitis B Epidemic in AA and NHPI Communities: Impact & Community and Federal Responses

Hepatitis B is the most common serious liver infection and can lead to liver cancer. Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders (AA and NHPIs) are particularly impacted by this disease; more than half of the estimated hepatitis B (HBV) carriers in the U.S. are AA and NHPI. It is critical that AA and NHPI individuals are screened and vaccinated for HBV, however community-based and national approaches are also needed. This webinar will provide an overview of HBV and its impact on our communities. The speakers will discuss strategies for eliminating new infections through community-based partnerships and passage of H.R. 3974, the first federal legislation introduced to address viral hepatitis and liver cancer prevention. Participants will have an opportunity to learn, engage and ask questions, and are encouraged to submit questions before the webinar.
