My wife and I recently went to visit the location where the 1987 film "Bagdad Cafe" was filmed. I have loved the film since I first saw it. I put together photos taken that day with stills from the film to make this little tribute.

  • I LOVE this movie! There's a certain feel to it that has me watching it over and over again. We stopped by the cafe on our Route 66 to Tombstone trip. I definitely want to stop by again. I didn't notice the camper trailer still there. I know the motel part was already gone. When did you visit?

  • @synholiday We visited about two years ago. The motel rooms were pretty run down, but still there, as were a couple of old trailers, similar to the one in the film.

It's only about a 40 minute drive from where we live and we do hope to visit it again soon.

  • ok i need some question :

    1: is this movie funny???

2:is it based in bagdad or is it just screwing with are mines?

    3:is it in australia?

4:why is this movie in a comedy section when you guys are saying this is a sad movie!!?

  • 1. The movie has wit, and moments of drama and sadness . . . just like life.

    2. It takes place at a small restaurant/motel not far from Bagdad, California, off of I-40, east of Barstow, CA.

    3. See previous answer.

    4. The film ends on an uplifting and life affirming note, after all the emotion and drama.

  • Not all who wander are lost...

  • I've been haunted by this song since I first saw this movie years ago. I just rented it again.

It's a great little gem of a movie, unfortunately, not everyone will "get it".

it just proves you don't need a lot of special effects, blistering dialogue, or even a big box office star (no offense to the actors in this flick) to present a thought provoking and entertaining movie.

I plan on having breakfast there someday.

  • Near the top of the list of my favorite movies. Never been to the Sidewinder, but have been through the area a few times; back-packed from coast to coast in '76! So cool that you went; I would love to go there, too. This film really captures the spirit of the road, though the story takes place in one location.

  • Sweet :) What a great movie that was...so magical
