Here is a very neglected 1974 Honda gas tank! Heavily rusted with minor pinhole leaks at the seams.
This is a demonstration (Part 1 of 6) video series of tank prep and sealing this abused metal tank. The end result was a tank that is usable and original to my old 1974 Honda XL 100. Hope it's helpful to you.

The Kreem product is acetone based. After I washed mine with detergent/ nuts and bolts mixture a few times, Yes, I wanted to ensure all of the scaled rust was out. I didn't have a scope to see inside of the tank. I placed it on my patio for a day to allow the water to evaporate thoroughly. Then, I bought an extra can of acetone to rinse it out. Then I applied the kit as instructed. I let the tank bake in the hot sun for a week, until I could not smell anymore product. Good stuff.

I used soap, MEK and gravel.
Did many doses of the gravel before the soap and MEK.
I would shake it till the the gravel was red dump rinse them dry them and repeat.
Took 3 days till the rust wouldn't come off to my touch.

great videos! i just resored an old tank and have a tip. i filled tank with 50 5/16 nuts and a cup of sand. i then used a ratchet strap to secure to atv tire wheel. i put atv on jackstands in first gear.. tumble 45 minutes. no shaking!
