On this flight I added another local airport to my list of places I've flown. This video shows my approach and landing at Fitchburg, MA (FIT). It was a beautiful day to fly in early November and so I made the short trip from Norwood over to Fitchburg. If you draw a straight line from Norwood to Fitchburg on your sectional, you'll notice that you pass directly through restricted area R4102 A&B. This is a small area of which local pilots are well aware. It's generally always active so we plan courses around it and since it's so small, that's not really hard to do. For this flight I flew from Norwood (OWD) toward Sterling (3B3) and then north to Fitchburg (FIT). On the video you'll hear a lot of local activity, which is typical for a Saturday morning and you'll hear me communicating with other pilots for approach positioning into this non-towered field. Again, two camera angles and UNICOM audio are on this video. This is also my first video using a new wide-angle lens attachment which expands the field of view a lot. The opening section is primarily there because of the beautiful sky and to show the 360 I was doing to let some traffic leave the area and get into position for the 45.

  • BillWil - Yes it's true, Cirrus screens are just like all the other screens, prone to getting dirty!

  • KOWD to KFIT was about 20 to 25 minutes, given the route I took away from a restricted area and considering positioning for approach and sight-seeing.

  • Great Landing Rick! Sure kissed that runway. Heavy traffic huh. It gets to be like that at Marshfield too sometimes. I'll tell you soon when I'll be going Im long overdue. --Andrew

  • Another great video! Nice landing also. That seems like a nice little airport. How long did it take ya to get there from OWD?
