@1769jongates I got there on May 1st of 1970 (3/187 Inf 101st), and there were still some "old guys" (ranging in age from 18 to 25) who had been to the A Shau Valley.

I like your attitude and especially your comment of "don't glorify this disaster..." Cooks, Supply Clerks, and other REMFs seem to have the best war stories, but I'm glad that you, old jungle grunt, made it home alive.

@unit731gamer To say US lost the war is not entirely correct. US bombed the NVA and VC to the negotiation table in Paris where a peace treaty was established. Unfortunately the peace treaty said the US had to get all troops out but said nothing about the thousands of NVA in So. VN. 2 years after that treaty was signed NV forces over ran Saigon. So in effect the US managed to get an outcome that favoured So. VN. NV broke that treaty. US could've invaded again - US gov lost the will.

@4everUSNavy Read a fucking book ? dude even in american documentary they say USA lost the war like ALL the countries who tried to invade vietnam. Vietnam never lost a war, vietnamese are well known for their resistance around the world. There are tons of documentary about it and AMERICAn books about their greatest general VO NGUYEN GIAP. There was tons of documentaries about him one month ago because he celebrated his 100 years (he is still living) so YOU are the one who should read books !
