A Tribute to one of the most creative and fantastic TV series ever made.. Irwin Allen's "Land of the Giants".

The series aired through 2 seasons on ABC America from 1968 to 1970.

In an age BEFORE computer generated Special Effects.. Allen and his team managed to create a world of Giants in Studio that still stands the test of time today.

It aired in Australia on the 9 and 10 Networks from 1969 and through syndication into the new millenium on FOXTEL Pay TV.

I made this Slide Show Tribute in 2005 from a collection of pictures and still photos. it includes some rare production pictures and publicity shows used to promote the 1968-1970 series.

The amazing and stirring Music Score written directed and performed by John Williams.

Prolific Hollywood Producer, the late Irwin Allen made "Land of the Giants" without the use of digital or computer effects but instead relying on the enthusiasm of his staff to create a world of Giants on an alien planet.

The plot centered on a group of people on a sub-orbital flight from Los Angeles to London in the then future of 1983

During the flight, the space craft encounters wild turbulance and is sucked into a mysterious cloud only to emerge on the other side.. somewhere else in the Universe and heading toward a planet.

Once landed, the crew explore trying to contact authorities, initially believing they are back on Earth. They soon discover they are indeed somewhere else when a Giant car almost runs them over before a Giant boy picks up their ship.

The crew manage to get the ship airborne again but fail to gain much height and are forced to land.

The series then followed the passengers and crews adventures on this "Land of the Giants".

I am amazed Hollywood hasn't remade this series into a new TV show or even a Movie.. esspecially with so many state of the art Special Effects on hand today. It is I guess a tribute to Irwin Allen and his team that they did such a good job back in 1968 that it remains an audience favourite to this day.

I set the "slideshow" to a music track featuring the 2 different but inspriing Season themes the series had. Both penned by the prolific John WIlliams. You'll also hear some familiar incidental music the series featured that made a comeback when John Williams wrote the sciore for "Jurassic Park".

NOTE: The Music and Images remain the copyright of the Composers, Irwin Allen Productions and 20th Century FOX.

  • They could do a 6 part series where another group of travelers go in search of the spindrift plotting the same course landing on the land of the giants could even have some of the old original cast in it lets face it they made a movie of lost in space , a remake of the prisoner and v ,,

  • Does anybody else remember the episode where the queer catchs the black having a leak and drools "This really is the land of the giants!"..I think they never ran it as a re-run for obvious reasons..

  • @tonyblade1000 Ya, this and other shows. Kids don't have imaginations these days...but we sure did. Fond memories.

  • Why remake something so stupid in the first place...opps i forgot about "Rocky"

  • Thanks for bringing back my childhood memories mate! I was in love with this when it came out, born in 63. It fired my imagination so much! Fantastic man, and thanks for sharing.

  • @BELTED007 You can buy from Razamataz. I have just bought series one.

  • Awesome memories...

  • @Lookinland Good one about the Time Tunnel. Me too

  • John William's theme was the best. This performance comes close, but not quite there. He took a small studio orchestra and made it sound like the London Symphony on that one!

  • The best Music! EVER! nothing come close since the Irwin Allen Shows!
