Hoagy Carmichael 1947 Huggin' And Chalkin'. This is an oldie and certainly a goodie. I tweaked the audio to try to achieve an emulated stereo effect. This is a great tune that may even be appreciated by today's younger generation. I hope that you will thoroughly enjoy it.

  • Our beloved 91 year old neighbor would sing me this song when I would gain a few pounds! We found this video and played it for him one evening...HE LOVED IT!! Hadn't heard it in decades. He has recently passed on and is much missed. But I have this memory.

  • Well God bless you, dominiquehoward, for caring enough to bring joy into your neighbor's life while he was with us. He seemed to have been a good man with a wonderful sense of humor and I can understand why you must miss him. I must thank you for taking the time to comment on this video and sharing your story with everyone. It is quite touching, indeed.

    Peace be with you.

  • Believe it or not, I heard Hoagy and this song this evening on 650 AM in Houston, TEXAS. The DJ that played it tonight, is the same one that played it many moons ago when I first heard it -- which I've posted before. Paul Berlin is the dean of Houston radio personalities -- still spinning the classics!!!

  • Hello tallpaul521. You're kidding!? I'll be sure to tune in Paul Berlin on 650 AM in Houston. Is it all Big Band or do they just play oldies? And does that station have an internet stream?

Thanks for taking the time to post.

  • Love it!!! What a different attitude we had back then-now you would be scorned for writing or performing such a a song!!! As a lifelong musician I can tell you I wish I could have been playing back then-such an exciting and innovative time!!

  • Hello steveguitargunter and thank you for taking the time to post a comment on this video. I must say that there are some really hairy lyrics in today's music if one listens closely enough. But I would agree that a song about a chunky lover at that time would have been considered on the bawdy side. I agree with you that what with the consciousness that there is focused on obesity nowadays, Hoagy might have well been sued by some offended party or another.

The song is just plain fun.

  • Reminds me of my parents. My mom loved Hoagy, and this song always cracked her up.

  • @goellphoto Kudos to your dad for those witty and clever lyrics! "Over the great divide......"

  • @CaravanaVan @CaravanaVan It's actually 700 am KSEV. The Paul Berlin Show is on Saturday nights 6 - 8pm Houston time. He plays the 40's through 60's -- lots of oldies, standards, novelties and Big Band. He has great anecdotes about the performers as he knew and worked with many of them - plus great trivia and history on the songs. I think they do stream and you can listen to his past shows at the station site. YT is not letting me post the URL- just Google KSEV 700 am. Happy listening!

  • It's Julia Fatso Howcum's Theme Song! HAHA!!!!
