In this video I'll be going over why you buy what you do through discussing Branding and Consumerism, two very interesting and far reaching topics. There are other ploys companies use to make you buy things such as understanding human-product interaction and emotional design, but I decided the Branding and Consumerism aspects are more prominent and interesting topics. Hopefully this video opens your eyes to the reality of a world where the corporation is the dominant institution.

Note: Historical background information is based from a Canadian standpoint.

Until next time.

  • Why do I go to college? Because if I didn't I'd be homeless and disowned.

Why don't I buy things? I don't have any money after paying for college. The computer I'm typing on isn't even mine...

  • Excellent video.

  • wow, I feel very conflicted by this topic. On one hand I can't stand this blind consumer mentality, but on the other hand I love high production value video games like bf3. Without this consumer society, a game like bf3 would never have been created.

  • @ZoxinTV yeah, and just because somebody rejoices in consumerism and buying enjoyable products doesnt mean that they are a soulless robot with no friends.

  • @RhinoSea The idea behind material possessions creating "happiness" is an idea that people commonly misconceive. Sure, you bought that new graphics card, but, for example, if one have no friends, family, or general lifestyle that they can be content with, being able to play Crysis on high isn't going to create constant happiness throughout their day-to-day life.
