Button mashing will work in either game against crappy players. Not against people who know what they're doing.

Side stepping adds strategy to the game. There are several moves you can do during sidesteps and not every attack can be sidestepped.

You obviously don't understand SF, by more advanced, you mean easier to pull of combos right? And spam? You mean fireballs? Sure, noobs spam fireballs, but more experienced players do combos. You have to time every single hit in SF except target combos, which are like Tekken combos. Also, 2D wins because 3D just makes it so you can sidestep the whole fight, play a real game kiddo :)
