Nah, Kurt was every bit as capable of leading and steering the band as Dave, but Kurt was too genuine and too vulnerable. Corporations and fame and the celebrity industry brought him down. That's Dave's strongsuit but he didn't realize it until after Kurt passed away. He took the time to learn everything he could about how it worked and how to move up. This song is the perfect homage to Kurt, which is why Dave gave this song the TLC that makes it so moving.
