@SugarTomApple Technically NZ didn't loose Crete. The German codes had been broken and info on the coming attack on Crete cabled to Freyburg. He had to draw up his battle plan on that info so the Germans didn't realize there codes were broken. Withdrawing from Crete forced 30,000 odd Germans to garrison the island. If it were the other way around, it is possible that Britain may not have had enough soldiers to hold Nth Africa in the coming months.

@GreekHero16 Yes. My dad and five uncles were there fighting in Greece. They also fought in Crete. Unfortunately they lost both battles and had to run away. It is shameful for New Zealanders to lose any battle. We started winning when the United States helped us. God bless the Americans.

After the fall of Greece, The New Zealand 2nd Division was then evacuated to Crete. They then fought against German Paratroopers on Crete, 2,180 kiwis were captured, 671 were killed and 967 wounded.
