I'm not 100% sure about the year that this was filmed but there is a group's date of purchase on the side of GWR 2-6-2T No. 4110 of March 1977. In the 32 years since it's no surprise that most have been restored to full working, and some, mainline running order - most notable, and perhaps not until next year, GWR 4-6-0 No. 6023 King Edward 2, which is featured on this clip. For me this clip has brought back good memories to be able to see at close hand the vast scale of rusting hulks waiting to be snapped-up by preservation groups.

  • Excellent. Reminds me of my visits to the yard when I was a kid.

You've also captured at least two locomotives which didn't make it out of the yard. 9F no. 92085 and Class 21 diesel no. D6122, both scrapped in 1980 and very worthy preservation candidates in their own right.

  • Wow. Tnx for posting this. I grew up on the Island and these trains were a playground to us. But visually, it was so sad to see them go.
